At the recent South West Skills Award Ceremony, Unwin Safety Systems was presented with the "Train to Gain Medium Employer of the Year Award, in recognition to their commitment in improving skill levels amongst their workforce.
The Award ceremony was organised by the Learning Skills Council and was held at Sandy Park Stadium in Exeter on the 26th April this year.
Twenty individuals and nineteen companies from across the South West were recognised for their skill achievements and were presented their prizes by Scottish Rugby player Kenny Logan.
Since October 2008, Unwin Safety Systems has invested a considerable amount of time and money in developing employee skill levels. With the help of Train to Gain Services and CSM, all members of the production team, have successfully achieved NVQ Level 2 in Performing Manufacturing Operation and are now preparing for NVQ Level 2 in Business Improvement Techniques, which will take place through the summer.
In addition, most of the staff are undertaking City and Guild Level 1 and 2 tests in Literacy and Numeracy and the supervisors and team leaders are also doing a City and Guild Level 2 test in Health & Safety, both VRQ recognised qualifications.
Peter Taylor, Unwin Director of Operations and Sareya Gardner, Production Manager, who have overseen the training program, were present at the Award Ceremony. "We are very proud to receive this Award on behalf of Unwin Safety Systems. It recognises the tremendous effort and dedication put in by everyone within the production team to achieve this skill level in such a short space of time". quoted Peter Taylor.
