Nick Coleman with Peter Taylor
UNWIN Safety Systems’ Director of Operations Peter Taylor retires on March 11 after managing 14 years of growth and modernisation.
Mr Taylor joined Unwin in March 1997, when the wheelchair safety systems manufacturer was still based in Yeovil in Somerset.
One of Mr Taylor’s major achievements was to help Unwin move successfully to a new HQ with modern manufacturing facilities in nearby Martock. The place was gutted and transformed.
Mr Taylor said: ‘What a difference! Then we had round about 40 staff, now we have 70-ish. It’s given me an enormous amount of satisfaction to see the way that people have developed.
‘And there’s been such a big change to the sort of equipment we’ve got around us. Everything is now much more sophisticated and we’ve brought a lot of work in-house, like machining rail for example.’
Andrew Creese, Unwin’s chief executive, said: ‘Peter has made an enormous contribution to Unwin’s success, developing people, refining production, setting up supply chains and just always looking for improvements. We wish him a long and happy retirement.’
Mr Taylor has been shadowed for the last six weeks by his successor Nick Coleman, 38, to ensure a smooth transition.
UNWIN Safety Systems will be mixing and matching at APSE Aviemore 2012, Scotland’s largest public sector Fleet, Waste and Grounds Services Exhibition.
