Nick Coleman - Unwin New Operation Director
QUALITY, price and service are the watchwords for Unwin Safety Systems’ new Director of Operations Nick Coleman.
Nick, 38, has moved from a top European job in cosmetics and toiletries to head up Unwin’s production of world-leading safety systems for wheelchair-users and other passengers.
Mr Coleman said: ‘The markets are very, very different for sure, but otherwise it’s not too dissimilar at all.'
‘The average cosmetic item may have up to 40 components, with a massive supply chain and a complex manufacturing process to get the product on the shelf, so my experience in large scale production and product engineering is directly relevant.'
‘My aim at Unwin is to continue to make sure that our customers get the best products at the best prices when they want them.'
‘Unwin Safety Systems is a very successful company and this is a big, exciting opportunity. I want to make an impact.’
Mr Coleman was General Manager of Operations at LF Beauty’s factory in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, which employs 830 people and is Europe’s largest manufacturer of toiletries and cosmetics.
Moving to Unwin’s base in Martock, Somerset, means that Mr Coleman is working in the county for a third time. He had previous managerial jobs at Europe’s largest aerosol manufacturer and a luxury furniture maker whose clients included royalty, footballers and pop stars.
NOTE TO EDITORS:
Nick Coleman is currently having a long induction with Unwin’s outgoing operations director Peter Taylor, who is retiring one day before his 65th birthday in March. A separate story about Mr Taylor will follow.
Mr Coleman comes originally from Nottingham. He studied Geological Engineering at Sunderland, and wrote a thesis on shallow gas exploration in the North Sea. He has 15 years experience in manufacturing. He began his career as a shift manager at Europe’s largest aerosol manufacturer, Swallowfield PLC, in Wellington, Somerset. Next he was operations manager at MPM Consumer Products in Manchester, where he oversaw the amalgamation of three other household and toiletry product makers, then at Chalon in Hambridge, Somerset, he managed the production of luxury furniture for clients including royalty, pop stars and footballers. Work at LF Beauty in Wiltshire then preceded his move to Unwin back in Somerset.
UNWIN Safety Systems will be mixing and matching at APSE Aviemore 2012, Scotland’s largest public sector Fleet, Waste and Grounds Services Exhibition.
